Samsung solar-powered Blue Earth phone

Samsung solar-powered Blue Earth phone

The Samsung Blue Earth (or GT-S7550) was first announced way back in February 2009, and we began to think that this particular phone model, it would never on the market.

What makes the Blue Earth is a great interest solar panel on the back, so it is possible to recharge the handset with sunlight. It is not easy to stop it is to Blue Earth in large part from recycled plastics, comes with an ultra-efficient charger and even the box it comes in can be used again as a picture frame and pen holder, if you wish.

We have seen a few solar devices before, for example, the Samsung Crest Solar E1107. But earlier solar-phones are very basic, the Blue Earth is a far superior device.

The Blue Earth has not changed since we first saw it change, so our initial expectations are no longer correct. This is a 3.5G device with WiFi support, GPS and a large 3.0-inch 400 x 280 pixel touchscreen display. On the back is a 3.2-megapixel camera, and the Blue Earth also comes with a multimedia player, FM radio and microSD expandable memory to save media files and data.

From the specifications, it is clear that the Blue Earth no wallflower when it comes to technical features. But this means that demand for electricity is much more than a simple phone, and as a consequence, there is a fairly strong 1080 mAh battery included. Samsung say that the Blue Earth’s solar cell 10 minutes of talk time from batch one hours in the sun, the sounds can be quite useful. The cell appears to be similar to that in the S8000, so we suspect that the Blue Earth have a call credit of at least 4 hours .. this means that the phone would be taking charge from zero to full charge actually involve leaving the phone in the sun for 24 hours or more.

To be honest, we think that the solar panel is only marginally useful. But we are impressed by the use of post-consumer waste (ie, recycled plastic bottles), and the Blue Earth is also free from PVC and other potentially harmful substances.

Another problem with the solar panel is the security – the phone itself is expected to roughly 400, which may steal it an attractive device that makes the retail sector. Some care must be taken with him to ensure that they will not be left unattended.

What the software does, the Blue Earth, all the other usual features, plus an “Eco Walk” application that supports it out of the car and pound the pavements. The GPS receiver supports Google Maps, which is good for many things, but not for use in the car .. Although the solar panel would be suitable for this task.

Overall, this is an attractive and well specified handset, not a few serious attempts to reduce the impact on the environment makes to do it. Some people will get more use out of the solar panel than others, but if all else fails, then at least it’s something that will impress your friends.
