Nokia kills WiMAX tablet

Another name is on a long and growing list of tech articles on axed by various companies. The Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition has been discontinued. WiMAX is a wireless network with a range greater than Wi-Fi and are intended to replace the potentially even Wi-Fi broadband and mobile networks.

Nokia spokeswoman Laurie Armstrong has no grounds for removal, but that new technology is necessary because WiMax tablets begin to grow in use. Other manufacturers have reported plans to WiMax-enabled computers. Until that happens, though, WiMAX users need an external modem.

The Nokia N810 Tablet used 4.1 “touch-screen monitor in combination with a slide-out keyboard in an attempt to overtake gadgets like the PDA. The tablet is still present, but without the WiMax modem.
